Climate Change: What Are Our Chances?

Industrialised countries have decided that, in order to avoid the most severe impacts of climate change, warming of more than 2^oC (above pre-industrialised levels) should be avoided. Any higher than this and the possibility of hitting tipping points becomes much higher. For example, large quantities of potent greenhouse gases locked in frozen soil could be released, which increases warming, which increases the amount released from the frozen soil and so on. Using a few simple numbers we can work out how likely it is that we will limit global warming to this level.
